Rentak Timur Sdn Bhd (RTSB) was incorporated on 27th April 2004 with an authorised and paid-up capital of RM1,000,000 and RM1,000,000 respectively.
RTSB is an agro-based
Plantation and Project Management company focusing on high value crop, Vanilla, the first in Malaysia. The company leases a 5-acres land in Lanchang, Temerloh, Pahang. Named “Rentak Timur Agro Farm”, the land will become the model farm as well as seedlings and nursery centre for Vanilla. In addition, RTSB owns a 150-acres land in Kechau, Lipis for its own Vanilla plantation.
RTSB through its parent company, Panji Bitara Sdn Bhd (PBSB) started its agriculture activities back in the year 2002 when it undertakes research on the plantation of Vanilla. Through director’s own fund, the Vanilla model farm was set up on a 1.5 hectare land in Singaraja, Bali, Indonesia. The project was in collaboration with a local Vanilla grower, Bapak Made Artaya Palguna who has been in the Vanilla plantation and processing business for over 30 years. The farm, functions as PBSB’s Vanilla research and development centre for its pioneer project in Malaysia. The farm is currently producing its second year of yields.
To pursue this Vanilla plantation proposition in Malaysia, RTSB has approached some State Economic Development Corporations (SEDCs) and government agencies as its strategic business partner.
In September 2005, Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) has approved the proposition and has agreed to appoint RTSB as the Project Management Consultant (PMC).
The appointment will see RTSB extends its expertise and business consultation in the plantation of Vanilla by FELDA settlers. Apart from PMC, RTSB will also sign Buy-Back Agreement with planters from FELDA.
The Buy-Back Agreement provides RTSB the exclusivity to buy back all the Vanilla green beans from FELDA at specified price. RTSB in return will process the green beans into dried Vanilla pods and other form of
finished products for export market. RTSB has on Gebruary 2006 signed a MoU with Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Teknologi Malaysia (KUKTEM) for the research and development of Vanilla’s extraction and its related technology. The collaboration created an opportunity for RTSB to further explore the downstream activities of Vanilla industry.
RTSB had in October 2005 presented its proposition to Lembaga Tembakau Negara (LTN) for the cultivation of Vanilla as replacement crop to tobacco. The Board of Directors vide its letter dated 25th October 2005 has agreed with the proposition and the first trial cultivation of Vanilla was taken place in January 2006.
